Delhi Assembly Election 2025 Voting LIVE Updates: The high-stakes Delhi election is underway in 70 Assembly constituencies. President Droupadi Murmu, Union Ministers S Jaishankar, Hardeep Singh Puri, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi have cast their votes. In the triangular contest between the AAP, the BJP, and the Congress, the ruling party aims for a third consecutive term, while the saffron party hopes to make a return to power after 25 years, and the grand old party strives to make a comeback. An FIR has been registered against AAP’s Amanatullah Khan for poll code violation on the eve of the election.
Key candidates and constituencies: The Capital witnesses a tight contest in New Delhi constituency between former chief minister and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, former BJP MP Parvesh Verma, and Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit – son of former chief minister Sheila Dikshit. The Kalkaji seat witnesses a contest between AAP candidates and Delhi CM Atishi, BJP’s Delhi unit chief Ramesh Bidhuri, and Congress’s Alka Lamba. Another high-profile contest is in Jangpura, a seat that the AAP has won for two consecutive times. The ruling party has fielded a new candidate this time in Manish Sisodia, who is up against BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah, and Congress’s Farhad Suri.
Poll pitches and party campaigns: The AAP took the decision to not hold huge rallies but go door-to-door, as per a senior party leader. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal highlighted AAP’s popular welfare schemes, promising to fulfill the government’s budget promise of Rs 1,000 for women under the age of 60 who do not pay taxes. Kejriwal also promised to increase this to Rs 2,100 if the party comes to power. Principal Opposition BJP and the Congress also followed AAP’s lead, announcing sops for the underprivileged in the national capital. The BJP also reached out to its middle-class base, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi underscoring the tax relief provided in the Union Budget at a poll rally. The Congress also pledged various sops for Delhi voters, from Rs 2,500 monthly assistance for women to Rs 25 lakh health insurance for every resident.
